School History

Our School History

The school was first opened at 53 Holzgen Street Brackenhurst on 08 January 1980 and was called Brackenhurst 2nd Primary with 218 learners, 9  teachers and  1 secretary.

School Name

Kent is one of the kingdoms of the Anglo-Saxons. The first settlers were led by Hengist & Horsa.

They landed at the invitation of the British Vortigem in Kent at the end of the 5th century.

Hengist and Horsa were brothers. They had been exiled from their country and went to serve Kino Vortigem. Their names are synonymous both meaning: “The horse”

It remained the emblem of the people from which the English sprang. It represents an important part of our cultural heritage – our home language at Kenton.

School Emblem

The two old coronets represent the two names of the Saxon Chieftans. The white horse was the ensign of the invader’s Hengist and Horsa. Our School motto ” Excelsior” translated means Ever Upward. It became the emblem of the kingdom of Kent.
